Sound Engineering is a well determined term in abroad countries like USA, Australia, Canada, Europe,etc. But unfortunately in India many educated people don’t know what exactly is this field. So I thought of writing this blog for those people specially.

In India people still don’t know any other profession then IT engineer, Mechanical Engineer, Architect, Doctor, etc. So basically I am a Sound Engineer by profession and I have my own recording studio in India, Maharashtra, Pune. I have also registered my firm and my firms name is Strings Record. Usually I am not only the field of sound engineering but also provide other services like video editing, video shoot, animation, etc basically everything that is needed for marketing or we can say for online marketing. So usually many people even the educated people ask me what is my qualification and what do I do for living. So I tell them that I am a Sound Engineer and that I have my own firm which provides the above services. So the people have big question mark on their face because in reality they don’t know what it is and the reply to that I get is “Oh! Nice that is something different” and I just feel like laughing. They even consider this as some lame job.

So there are 2 types of sound engineers. First type of sound engineer is the one who is on site installations of sound and other things like the mic, mixer, setting up the volume, etc,. These sound engineers are usually present on the events that take place in our city. The second type of sound engineers are the one who are in the studio for production and post production.

I will be talking about the second type of sound engineer. So in studio we work on the post production of movies, serials, production of music album, songs, dubbing, foley recording, voice over recording, recordings take place. But just doing the recording and giving the recording isn’t the only that needs to done. After the recording is done it is necessary to work on the audio so that the audio would be smooth and clear. Even there are processes and effects that needs to be added to make the audio more good. For this the sound engineer needs to hear the audio more clearly and this takes a lot of time, practice and patience. Have you ever wondered that how come the audio of a movie or a song sounds so nice? or how come the sound in a movie takes you closer to the reality? . All this is because of the work of the sound engineer. He/she is the artist behind all those things. Each and every sound is recreated in the studio. This process is known as Foley recording. The Sound Engineer observes the scenes very carefully and minutely, so that he/she would be able to create the same sound again which gives it a realistic feel. Of course just producing the sound or recreating the isn’t the only thing that and which ends his work, he needs to give various kinds of effects according to the sound and the scene that is going on and also needs to adjust the volume accordingly. There is a lot of hard work, ear training in it. Most of the people think that whats the big deal in that anyone can do it. Ill suggest to those people to come and try it and then tell us that it is easy.

Now a days sound engineers are also playing a equal role in marketing.  There are various kinds of music platform such as spotify, hungama, etc, in which people are marketing their product. So a Sound Engineer is also required to do that for the audio of the marketing video.

If i have to tell about Sound Engineering it is quite a huge filed to explore. There are many things that you could do, you could experiment and the main thing is there is no fear of loosing or failing because whatever we create is new in some or the other way. It a good field for those who are artistic, who like to do new things, who are tired of the same things that are going on from ages and most important those who love or like to play with sound. Sound Engineers aren’t determined by the marks they obtain in their exam but are recognized by the work they do and by their knowledge and the experience they have. Even a kid who has just completed his 12^th can earn a lot of money through this. This field depends on the practical knowledge that you have and the practical experience that you have.

Sound Engineering is tomorrows new filed that will take over the market and leave behind other fields. It is a new field that is immerging now. And tomorrow Sound Engineering will be the most depended course that every parent and student would want to take.
